Hatha Yoga Class - Sundays 8:30 am
“Ha” (sun) and “tha” (moon) represent the balance of opposing yet complementary energies within the body and mind. “Ha” signifies the hot, active, masculine, solar energy, while “tha” signifies the cool, receptive, feminine, lunar energy. Hatha Yoga aims to unify these forces, promoting harmony, stability, and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
It is a traditional practice that unites the mind and body through slow, deliberate physical poses and conscious breath control, often holding postures to deepen awareness.
This accessible yoga class begins with grounding and centering, with the option to set an intention for your practice. We gently bring attention to the breath, move into a soft warm-up, and then flow into a sequence of slowly performed yoga poses. The practice includes mindful breathing meditation and concludes with savasana (corpse pose) — learning and practicing the art of surrendering and letting go. At the end, there is an opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and/or share your experience.
This slow pace challenges strength and flexibility while welcoming a deep stretch, with an emphasis on mindfulness and relaxation. Regular practice supports physical, mental, and emotional health. It has been shown to increase flexibility, strength, and balance while reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. It also promotes better cardiovascular health, eases chronic pain, improves sleep, and boosts immune function.
“I teach yoga for the same reason I practice.”
-Maria Anna Manusama
Maria began her yoga journey in 2008 after moving from the Netherlands to Venice, California. What started as part of her fitness routine soon became a deeply transformative path, reshaping her from the inside out. Yoga became a gateway to self-healing — emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
As her curiosity deepened, Maria completed her first Yoga Teacher Training in 2015 to further her personal practice, followed by a 300-hour Advanced Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy Program. Since then, she has been teaching Vinyasa Flow, Hatha Yoga, Chair Yoga, and Restorative/Yin Yoga, sharing yoga in ways that meet people where they are.
Maria is passionate about integrating yoga into daily life and finds joy in turning her own transformation into service. The mat is more than a place to stretch — it is a space to listen, to heal, and to come home to wholeness. 🤍
